The START Teacher Scholar Program supports STEM teachers tailor instruction for underrepresented populations by utilizing support systems at the University of Kentucky. START provides financial sponsorship to teachers participating in The UK STEM Teacher Workshop, which features unique, integrated  sessions designed and delivered by UK faculty experts in STEM, with an explicit focus on connecting the work to the Kentucky Academic Standards (similar to NGSS and CCSSM). All teachers are heavily engaged with these standards and practices, as they do the work of STEM in the workshop. These sessions model and connect to culturally relevant teaching practices. Teachers can also contact START to gain authentic research lab experiences and gain access to a variety of additional opportunities for professional growth and networking within the STEM community.
